Who and What Is Yarrell Creek Designs?

We are a part time unincorporated company owned and operated by Brian G. Ward. We started in 2014 to create products that would conjure up feelings of pride, patriotism and a longing for the world of our forefathers. The first products were actually metal based and fostered an outdoor theme. There have been gradual changes in direction and products as this small company began to make itself known. In fact, it may have been simply a hobby that caught the attention of some people along the way. Brian's involvement was always driven by a conscious desire to create things that his grandfathers could and would appreciate. This is not the typical business school entrepreneurial startup with a a polished and highly financed plan. Rather it is a venture rooted from the desire of a single individual that wants to present a product that he would be proud to own himself AND be able to make a little money for creating that product. The company has currently morphed into making wood products and more specially the United States flag. This flag will not wave it's glory in the wind from a pole. It is designed to be hung on a wall inside like a piece of art. Other products may be provided but this flag is currently the primary focus.

My Grandfathers

My father did not serve in the military. However, my grandfathers on both my father and mother's side of the family were young men when America became involved in WWII. Gilbert Ward was born in 1922 and fought against Japan while E. H. Manning, Jr., my mother's father, born in 1925, fought the Germans. Gilbert didn't speak a lot about his war experience. but he believed that you should "walk softly but carry a big stick." He was very protective of his grandchildren and commanded respect for elders. He didn't finish the eighth grade so he was not an academic. He was gifted with his ability to work with metal and as a farmer he repaired and built equipment for use around the farm. He was proud of what he "put his mark on." E. H. was a little more open about his war experience, maybe because he lived longer than Gilbert and I was around him more. Also, I visited Normandy, France and our conversations about France caused him to open up. He did graduate from High School and he also became a farmer.

My memories of these two men and my imagination of how things were when they were growing up are a driving force for me in this business. They both had great respect for the Flag. They both had great pride in what they did, what they stood for and a deep respect for those who came before them as well as those that follow them in time. I inherited this pride and building these flags helps me fill my place and pass on to my children and grandchildren what I feel. When someone purchases a flag, I hope that it will represent their love and respect of someone near and dear to them. This flag may represent our country, but it also represents the people who believe in this country and want to be good and kind with the strength of character to fight for all others who want the same thing for their families.
